As part of our Christmas present to our family, my husband, Jabez and I have decided to offer our services in the kitchen Christmas day. A full post about the delicious-ness we create will be coming, with images as well, but here’s a sneak peak at the line-up:
Goat Cheese and Tomato Toasts – original recipe recommended to me from a friend calls for bleu cheese, but we’re putting our own twist in for this dish.
Braised Pork Shoulder with Herbs and Red Wine (Jabez’ take)
Herb Roasted Potatoes, Carrots (My own simple concoction)
Sauteed Brussels Sprouts
Chocolate Silk Pie – Recipe from The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook, pg. 222 – I am SO excited to make this.
We’re in need of a number of specialty items, although most of the ingredients are almost always in the house (olive oil, sugar, butter, eggs, etc.) Here’s our shopping list for our grocery store run this evening.
Specialty items for the appetizer:
Specialty items for the main course:
Two bottles of Laya Red – a Grenache blend, this is a wine we had for our rehearsal dinner, it’s pretty much everything I love about red wine in one bottle – not too sweet, not too heavy, and can go with food or by itself easily.
Fresh herbs: rosemary, thyme, bay leaf
Spices: smoked paprika, cumin, coriander
Potatoes & Carrots
Specialty items for dessert:
1 ½ cups of chocolate wafer crumbs (cookie aisle)
Unsweetened chocolate (my recipe calls for 3 oz, plus some extra for garnishing
Heavy whipping cream (maybe this is always in your fridge, but currently, it’s not in mine)
I’m already hungry! Check back soon for the full recipes, techniques, and results!
