During holiday season, selecting the right gift can be overwhelming, especially when trying to buy a gift for someone who already has the things they need or want! If you’re sick of buying more stuff, here’s a quick list of 5 experience-based Christmas gift ideas that you’ll WANT to give (and maybe join in with).
A class or workshop. Take advantage of those classes and workshops that pop up on your Groupon all the time! Another great site for deals like this is Travelzoo, which recently my husband and I used to take a sauce making class at Chicago’s Le Cordon Bleu – Bleu Ribbon Kitchen. We learned how to make things like Hollandaise and rustic marinara, ate some great food and took home leftovers! For the artist you know, look for local studios that offer things like ceramics classes or a plein air (outdoor) painting class.
Membership to a museum, garden, aquarium, or zoo. One year I received a membership to my local art museum, but it also included free admission to a huge list of other museums all over the country. Ask your local museum what kinds of memberships they offer to get the best deal and the one your loved one will use most!
Monthly box subscription. This one is fun because there are endless options to the type of box you can subscribe to. Not sure which one to search for? This website lets you search for the perfect box! Or you can see some of the most popular ones in this article.
Tickets to a show/concert/sporting event. All you need to do is pick what kind of show, and then use Ticketmaster or a specific venue’s website to find your tickets. You might even be able to find some holiday deals this time of year!
A night game at Toyota Park for the Chicago Fire
Mini-trip. Maybe you’re splurging on a big trip (lucky you), but you don’t need to travel far for an awesome out-of-the-ordinary experience! Utilize cheaper travel options like Amtrak, or at least book flights far in advance to get the best deal. Travelzoo has both large and small vacation or flight deals at fantastic price, so be sure to check out their “Top 20” deals of the week if you’re stuck on where to go! You could easily spend a weekend in Chicago – see a show, eat some great food, and try one of the many fantastic coffee shops in the different neighborhoods!
One of my favorite coffee shops in Wicker Park, Scone City
Another coffee shop worth visiting in Lincoln Park, CityGrounds
